Finding a Filehost
For those of us who have sites with downloadable content, web hosts themselves fall short. I haven’t run into any web hosts which are friendly towards this. However this niche does not go unplugged. File hosts pick up where web servers stop. After looking through many different file hosts, I’ve found sites that would host content but forced you to go to a page with lots of ads and you really have to look for your download link. Some of them are very expensive. After looking through several of these sites, I have made two very satisfying purchases that I would like to share with you.
1. File Sonic
File Sonic offers uploading at a price for you and free downloading for your site visitors. In this service all you need to do is upload a file and File Sonic will then provide a link where you can download this file. You then paste it on your site and your users who click on the link will be taken to a download page within the File Sonic Site. After a counter has passed a few seconds away, the visitor can then click the link on the download page to download the file. For an example of this download this.
There are many reasons why I chose this site to host my files.
1. At the time I signed up for this service, it was offering a lifetime membership fee.
2. You can make money back by receiving a percentage of new membership sales to their site or as a percent of a cent per download. So in the end you could end up making the money you spent back and maybe even then some.
3. You can track the quantity of downloads of every file you have.
2. Media Fire
After signing up for the services, your users can freely download the files you have uploaded. In this service you have a choice to either add a link which will take your users to a download page or to download directly without leaving your site. To download a file from this host, click here.
I chose this site to host my files because:
1. It was a cheap price for the service.
2. I like the thought of my users being able to download directly without leaving my site.
3. Media Fire reports the amount of downloads of each file you have had.
